up collective

"just a drop" - alison mcdonald, artist, installation strand ephemera public sculpture show, 2009

art possesses a unique power to involve people in issues they may not otherwise have thought seriously about before. the affective properties of art have great potential to awaken hearts and minds, and if you are an artist, we would like to invite you to participate in an artistic response to the threat of plastic waste – particularly, but not restricted to, plastic bags.

surf coast shire’s arts development officer, julie dyer has been very supportive of our participation during the high tide festival and/or the nightjar markets, and the plastic bag free torquay committee will be seeking funding to help get “up collective”‘s first project off the ground. but we need artists.

if you would like to participate, and have an idea for an installation, sculptural piece, video work, projection, something ephemeral that lasts for the duration of the event, workshop idea (for children or adults) or other artistic response, please get in touch with stacie as soon as possible. send stacie a basic outline of your proposal, c.v. and hourly rate and we can take it from there! if this is successful, we would love to continue with other projects in the future. while upcycling will be possibly our main focus, please do not feel restricted by this.

if you haven’t already, have a look at the following websites. some are artistic responses that we have come in contact with, but you may have a better and brighter idea!
message in the waves – the powerful doumentary that started our campaign
not a cornfield – an artistic response to climate change in the urban context
